is it true that you can only download music into iPods from one computer?

I want to get an iPod but I'm not sure it'll be worth it. I'm not into the whole iPod craze and people's obsessions with them get under my skin! However, I do love listening to music and am considering getting an mp3 player. I once heard someone say that you can't download music into an iPod from just any computer. Is this true? I'm a college student and reside on campus; I don't own a laptop and I’m not planning on getting one any time soon, and my pc is back at home (I only go home for long breaks since it’s is too far from campus) so if I do get an iPod and need to download music it'll have to be from a different computer each time. What would you recommend?

Yeah you are kind of in a difficult situation. You can only use one itunes library to put stuff onto your ipod. When I plug my ipod into a different computer it says that i already have it syncing to another and if i sync it to a new computer all the existing stuff on it will be replaced. Thankfully I have my own computer so its not really a problem for me. Because of this I cant recommend you to get an ipod but i'm not sure if other mp3 players work the same way. Who knows, I think there might be a way to get around it. I know that you can copy purchased music on up to five different computers but they first need to be authorised to play them.
